Tumalo Ridge Splittie Lap

The missus and I got out last weekend for a quick lap at Tumalo.  We waited until early afternoon thinking that the snow would soften up a little throughout the day as the sun beat down on it.  The skin up was a little icy through the trees but the snow quality seemed to improved as we stayed in the exposed areas that got sun.
It was a quick lap and we stayed in the open areas as much as possible.  There was some icy spots but as usual the views at the top made the adventure well worth it:

Painted Hills, OR

On Sunday, we did a quick day trip out to the Painted Hills.  The area is incredible!  It offers a feast for the eyes as you hike around and take in the contrast of colors.  If you are anywhere near the area, it is well worth the drive and short hikes for the great vistas.

The Painted Hills is part of the John Day fossil beds and I look forward to getting back out there and exploring more of the area.
