Of Things Segway

The Mackays swung through Butte a couple of weeks ago on their way home to Tennessee during their annual pilgrimage out west.  This time they had some time to spend the night and we all got a chance to hang out for a few hours.

They definitely travel in style as their 5th wheel is a traveling home with all the amenities and bells and whistles of a real home.  Included in the mack daddy home is a washer/dryer in the master suite (which I am sure comes in handy with 2 very active girls who are constantly exploring and will surely give their dad some of what he dished out to his own parents...notice I say 'some'....)  I can say these things about my high school buddy since I have known him forever and I was part instigator in some of these hootenannies!   Fortunately for the missus and I, we are not planning on kids so karma will just have to settle for the dead end of a gene pool.

Back to the traveling rig...in this travel rig, the Mackays have taken along their Segways.  I was always curious about the Segways and just how the operate and move.  So Bob was nice enough to bust out the Segways and let us run them around.  He gave us a quick tutorial and sent us on our way:

It took a little getting used to and Bob was nice enough to give us a quickie heads up about what to do and not to do.  We took them for a spin around the block and quickly realized that they can get moving and that there would certainly be some consequences if you fell off at speed.

If all else fails and job opportunities dry up, this quickie tutorial should prep me well for a career as mall security, or parking lot security, or airport security, or beach patrol....the list goes on

One of the cool things about this whole set up is that Bob has everything accounted for.  He has 8 solar panels set up on the moving home away from home so he generates enough juice to power the rig and also extra like charge up the batteries for the Segways.  If you know Bob at all, this would not surprise you as he is the ultimate tinkerer and is constantly testing/breaking/fixings things.

They have a great set-up for the road and it was awesome to see them and get to hang....and we even got a Segway test ride!  all good in the hood!
